The forum moderator will be reponsible for determining, on a monthly basis, the 5 most important questions that emerge within that speciality that month. This will generally revolve around approval of new healthcare services approvals, whether new (1) medications (2) procedures (3) devices (4) surgical techniques, or (5) diagnostic tests (imaging or lab).
By way of example, we might be interested to know if drug eluting stents are perceived superior to non-drug eluting stents for patients with coronary artery occulsions. Other examples would include immediate physician feedback on techniques like LASIK surgery. The goal of the moderator is to determine “the most important 5 questions of the month”, and to stimulate, and organize, the dialogue that ensues. This will require weekly polling of regulatory approval websites, like the US FDA, to see what is new. It will also entail reviewing the peer-reviewed literature and medical professional news of the specialty.
